I always take a few attempts to find the right outfit for the day, even if it's just jeans and a jumper. I now have a further doubting voice adding to my own, a pint sized 13 year old Gok Wan wannabe, my youngest daughter L.
Today we were going shopping with my friend Foxy, and I put on a dress and thought I would risk tights, for the first time in a long time. I gave up on tights a couple of years ago, finding leggings to be a more comfortable replacement.
I found a pair of high denier tights and put them on, and although they rolled down a little at the waist, they fitted much better than last time I tried. L took a break from applying layers of orange eye shadow to her already beautiful eyes (can you tell how I feel about orange eyeshadow? My main question when I see it is WHY?), and begged me to get changed.
Me: Why? Is my dress too grannyish?
L: Well yes, but that's ok. (????) It's the tights. You look like a very old supply teacher!
It's only a matter of time. .... Once the rejection letters start rolling in, supply teaching might be an option. And at least I have my outfit ready to go.
I appeased her by replacing my patent brogues with knee length boots, and promised to keep my coat done up. Why do I even put myself through this? It's not even just because I'm going out. I go through the same routine even on the days when I don't leave the house. And apparently, (according to Gok) I always look the same whatever I wear. My response to that is that if I look like a middle aged lady writer, maybe one day I might turn into one.
We had a lovely day shopping, and bought some much needed new clothes for L, who is growing like a weed. I tried on a couple of flowery dresses, but didn't buy them, mainly because they made me look like a flowery mammoth, but also because there is no point buying new clothes now, as I am hoping to continue to lose weight.
The weigh in last night was much more favourable than the previous week, with Mr C losing 4 pounds (and winning slimmer of the week AGAIN, despite my warnings). I lost 4.5 pounds but had put on half a pound the week before, so was exempt from SOTW. It seems to all even out, and we are moving in the right direction, and pleased with the results.

For now at least, I am happy to stick with the old lady clothes, until I have dropped a few more pounds. Although I have realised that I can improve my image considerably by accessorising with this beauty, who is guaranteed to improve any photograph, just by being in it.
